Challenge Faced:

While executing the above project, Berger Paints India Limited encountered a couple of challenges such as:

  • One of the major issues we faced was paint spilling onto other buildings, which was something we had to rectify on priority.

  • We noticed that there were plenty of undulations, especially on dead walls.

  • There was an issue with the RSP/Gandola swinging all over the place.

  • There was also the concern of workers operating at this height (91 floors), which necessitated proper precautionary and safety measures.

Solution Offered:

Berger Paints India Limited got past these challenges with ease. Here’s how -

  • We noticed that the paint was spilling onto other buildings due to high wind pressure. To control this, the paint applicators made use of pressure rollers and installed a fine net to prevent the paint from spilling onto adjacent buildings.

  • Initially, when our Ruff n Ruff Scratch Texture was applied on the dead wall along with paint, we noticed that a lot of undulations were visible from the ground level. We held discussions with Hafeez Contractor and the site execution team to address this issue and suggested breaking the view by creating a horizontal groove on the dead wall with paint. Post this step, we saw that the undulations were reduced to a large extent.

  • Coming to the third challenge, we found out that the RSP was swinging due to high wind pressure. We did a thorough analysis and then took the call to do all the painting activity within the first half of the day as that was when the wind pressure was minimum.

  • Lastly, we also felt that normal labour would not be able to work at such a challenging height. Many of them suffered from Acrophobia, which is the fear of heights. To resolve this, we began by first training the labour and they got to work only after feeling completely confident. We also ensured each worker had proper medical certification and safety measures in place.

Conclusion:

Berger Paints India Limited successfully helped build India’s tallest residential tower with their unique and multi-dimensional strategies. The Minerva Tower project is slated to be wrapped up by December 2023.
